MASL 2017 Presentations

I'm presenting a number of sessions at the Maryland Association of School Librarians (MASL) annual conference today.

SESSION 1: McDaniel College SLM Connections

Learn about all ten future ready goals in one session! Join with McDaniel SLM alumni, students, and instructors to share how we are meeting the goals in school libraries: (1) Designs collaborative spaces, (2) Builds instructional partnerships, (3) Empowers students as creators, (4) Curates digital resources and tools, (5) Facilitates professional learning, (6) Ensures equitable digital access, (7) Invests strategically in digital resources, (8) Cultivates community partnerships, (9) Advocates for student privacy, and (10) Leads beyond the library. SESSION 2: Author Panel

Meet this year's conference authors through an engaging and high-energy panel geared toward helping you connect each author and their work to just-the-right reader!

SESSION 3: Graphic Novelists Drawn Together

Meet three cartoonists creating graphic novels for readers of all ages in an interactive panel unlike anything else you'll see today! Panelists will share their work, origins, and stories through words and live drawings, sometimes pitted against one another, sometimes working in collaboration. All art will be donated to attendees of the session.

SESSION 4: Digital Tools and Diversity

Digital tools and resources give students and teachers unprecedented access to knowledge and support online, which means that building a diverse library collection that truly represents the values and goals of the We Need Diverse Books campaign is within reach of all school librarians. In this session participants will learn about new digital resources and tools they can curate in order to support their own professional goals and work toward a library collection more representative of diversity. Presenter Matthew Winner will share his experience in working to make his All The Wonders podcast and the books in his library collection more representative of the students in his school and more reflective of the diversity of cultures and experiences in our country. Get uncomfortable and take a close look at how well your collection and library program really reflects diversity, then review tools and resources to help support the first steps of making positive change.
