Youth Media Awards Announced

The 2018 Youth Media Awards were announced on Monday at the American Library Association Midwinter conference in Denver. These include the prestigious Newbery Medal, Caldecott Medal, and the Coretta Scott King Book Awards, and the Pura Belpré Book Awards, among others. A full listing of the award recipients is available here,

As I did for the Ezra Jack Keats Awards and the NAACP Image Awards, I'd like to commend all of the ALSC Awards committee members for their time spent considering and deliberating on what they each felt were the strongest offerings suitable for each award given at the 2018 YMA. I would also like to extend a special congratulations to the awards winners and honorees who have shared their works on The Children's Book Podcast. You can listen to the stories behind the books through any of the episodes below.

The BOLOGNARAGAZZI AWARD has been among the world’s most highly regarded international prizes in the sector of children’s publishing. The award, which honours the best productions in terms of their graphic-editorial qualities, has become a leading international launch pad for authors and illustrators thanks to the high profile recognition that the winners receive during the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

BOLOGNARAGAZZI OPERA PRIMA SPECIAL MENTION recipient Corinna Luyken for THE BOOK OF MISTAKES (Episode 359)

I think we can all agree that there was no shortage of books worth celebrating in 2017. And for as many as I've myself celebrated through the podcast and on this blog, I'm even more excited for what's coming out in 2018. Congratulations again to all of the winners!
