Kobi Yamada (The Children's Book Podcast #422)

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A CHANCE?

Kobi Yamada is the author of WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A CHANCE?, the final picture book in a best-selling series including WHAT DO YOU DO WITH AN IDEA? and WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A PROBLEM?. In this conversation Kobi talks about the varied languages of creativity and how we're all finding our way through life. One of the most important concepts Kobi emphasizes in this conversation, to me, is that a book is incomplete without the reader. The implicit responsibility a reader has to trust the story and to invest a piece of themselves in the story is something that is at the center of the stories he writes.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

In this story, a child is visited by his first chance and unsure what to do with it, he lets it go. Later on, when a new chance arrives he reaches for it, but this time he misses and falls. Embarrassed and afraid, he begins ignoring each new chance that comes by, even though he still wants to take them. Then one day he realizes that he doesn't need to be brave all the time, just at the right time, to find out what amazing things can happen when he takes a chance…
