Sharee Miller (@coilyandcute) is the author/illustrator of DON'T TOUCH MY HAIR! The story follows Aria, a young African American girl who loves her hair but cannot stand when people touch her hair without permission. Sharee talks in our conversation about consent, and how most people would never touch a complete stranger's hand, and yet don't hesitate to touch a stranger's hair, even though your hair is just as much a part of your body. DON'T TOUCH MY HAIR was included in our school's mock Coretta Scott King Award and out 600+ students connected so much so with the story that they selected it as this year's winner. ABOUT THE BOOK:
It seems that wherever Aria goes, someone wants to touch her hair. In the street, strangers reach for her fluffy curls; and even under the sea, in the jungle, and in space, she's chased by a mermaid, monkeys, and poked by aliens...until, finally, Aria has had enough!
Author-illustrator Sharee Miller takes the tradition of appreciation of black hair to a new, fresh, level as she doesn't seek to convince or remind young readers that their curls are beautiful--she simply acknowledges black beauty while telling a fun, imaginative story.

Sharee stays very busy as a t-shirt graphic designer by day and a author/illustrator by night.
She’s the author and illustrator of Princess Hair and Don't Touch My Hair both published by Little Brown for Young Readers.
She is also the illustrator behind THE SHAI AND EMMIE SERIES by Quvenzhané Wallis and Nancy Ohlin. Her colorful happy character are created using watercolor and pen.
Sharee has also illustrated The Excursion published by Homebound Publications in partnership with the make a wish program.
